10-29-2007 Blarg: So my vacation has officially ended. New York was the last leg of our trip, and we flew back to Indianapolis late last night. Here are a couple truths I picked up along the way.
1) Flights can be canceled. What's up with that? We were not surprised to see our flight out of Indianapolis delayed, but when it was straight up canceled two hours before lift off I was a little surprised. We scrambled to book another flight with a different company, only to sit around at a different gate for four hours.
2) Meat is king. We went to a Brazilian restaurant where the servers walk around with large hunks of various meats and carve a slice for you at a moments notice. Brazilian people must have invented Atkins Diet and Pepto Bizmol.
3) New York is crazy. I was just in Chicago last weekend, and the difference is profound. Chicago is downright laidback compared to New York. In New York there is always an ambulance or cop sounding a horn, trying to fight through traffic. There are people everywhere bumping into me or playing on their Iphones. People are underground in the subways. They're on the streets and up high in skyscrapers. They have us surrounded.
4) Fashion is a questionable hobby. People dress in odd ways. There were a few people I thought were homeless, until I saw them texting on their Blackberrys. Perhaps he's letting Crazy Joe down the street know that the people on this corner are giving out quarters for a saucy jig.
5) Street art is street art for a reason. We went to the Met Museum. There are wonderful works of art there. The art people sell on the street does not belong in a museum. Everything is as it should be I guess.
6) Tapas is the new buzz word. Everyone has Tapas now. It's like Sushi was 10 years ago. I did see a sign in New York boasting their jam packed menu of Subs, Pizza, and Sushi. I'm guessing the tuna rolls there are not very authentic. Now I see Tapas replacing the word Appetizers. Chicken Fingers are not Tapas!
7) Truths are difficult to put into words. There are many other truths that were uncovered, but writing them down is an unwieldy struggle. I suppose that's what a good Blarg is for.
See you next week.
